We are proud to announce several new mares that have joined the herd at Silver Lining this year. As we started out breeding our Irish Draught Stallion to our TB mares for Traditional Irish Sport Horses, our goals have since matured as we have realized the need to contribute to the Irish Draught purebred gene pool. The Irish Draught breed is considered "Threatened" by the Livestock Conservatory so we need to play our part in the solutions. We imported an Ireland native mare with her purebred filly as well as two interesting and unique Partbred mares with fantastic jumper pedigrees. In addition, we added another OTTB to the herd as well. Scroll down to meet each of the girls, old and new! Some of the older mares in our program crossed the rainbow bridge, found new homes. or are retired here and are no longer listed but may be described in the offspring descriptions on the "Our Babies" page. Feel free to reach out for more information. With all the luck and blessings, we hope to have two healthy foals on the ground in 2025!
We imported this incredible purebred Irish Draught mare in the fall of 2024 with a foal at foot and bred to Carrigfada Grey Mist Class 1 Irish Draught from White Lodge Stud in Great Britain. Eleta, as we call her around the barn, has won our hearts in the short time she has been at SLSH. Her sire is none other than the famous Mountain Pearl and her dam sire is Castana. She is a tall 16.3h thick mare with a beautiful refined head. She moves gracefully, is polite and kind, and has fit right in to the herd here. We are looking forward to the arrival of her purebred Irish Draught foal this spring, but wait until you see what came with her this fall. Her baby Margo is absolutely to die for!! (see the news page...)
We are so lucky to acquire this lovely 2010 Irish Sport Horse mare imported from Ireland a few years ago. She competed successfully in Ireland at the 1.20m level before coming to the U.S. A sudden injury halted her show career but she found herself at home a SLSH as a broodmare. Her sire is the famous KPWN Verdi, a multi Olympian show jumper, known for his rideable, willing, and amateur friendly offspring. Verdi had a very long show career at the 1.60m level, winning internationally and producing winning show jumpers as well. His sire needs no introduction, as Quidam de Revel graces the pedigree of many successful show jumpers around the world. She is Irish on her dam side going back to Finbarr who sired Foxglen Himself. Finbarr's sire is the famous ID stallion Pride of Shaunlara. Verdell is bred to Con Capilot for a 2025 foal. This cross will results in a world class horse with the extra Irish sprinkle on top! We are so hopeful and beyond excited for this incredible foal to get here!
Abby is the first new mare that joined our farm in 2024 straight from the race track. This 17h TB red head is enjoying some down time and RR and will have a sport career before becoming a broodmare in the years to come. Her movement is breathtaking as she just floats with incredible grace and power. She is also very sweet and cuddly and demands peppermints! We think she will be an outstanding mare to cross with Rue eventually. Abby has already earned a forever home here!
This young TB 16.3h mare had a successful racing career before coming to SLSH. Her bloodlines include Empire Way (Unbridled) and Seattle Slew. We call her Kimber and adore her quiet demeanor. She is so quiet, anyone can ride her. She delivered a spunky colt in May 2022 by Cerulean Nightlife but sadly lost her colt during delivery in 2024. She deserves a break from breeding after such a loss and will return to being a riding horses for the foreseeable future. Someday Kimber will return to life as a broodmare because she is just too beautiful not keep producing.
Kali, as we call her, is a 16.2h Thoroughbred whose bloodlines include Northern Dancer. She has tons of scope and a tidy form over fences. She moves beautifully with a flat knee and cat-like stride. Her first filly, Breeland is turning 6 in 2025 and is a permanent resident of the farm for people to get to know a "Rue" baby. Kali also gave us an exceptional colt in October 2020 named Reverie who went to Florida to an eventing family. Her third baby is Gideon born in 2024 and she was left open this year to rest and recuperate. She deserves extra attention and all the cookies for giving us 3 wonderful babies over the years.
